What rekeying actually involves
Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing cylinder so the old keys stop working and a new key takes over. It keeps hardware you already own and it is the right answer whenever the question is "who else has a key?" rather than "is this lock any good?".

Rekeying — common questions
Rekey or replace — which do I need?
Rekey when the hardware is sound and the problem is key history. Replace when the cylinder is worn or seized, when the door does not meet the security standard you need, or when there is no deadlock at all. We will tell you which one you are looking at before we start.
Can every lock be rekeyed?
Most can. Some budget cylinders are not economically rekeyable and some high-security systems need their own components. We check on site and say so plainly.
I just bought the house. Is rekeying really necessary?
You have no way of knowing how many keys the previous owners cut over the years, or who still has one — trades, cleaners, family, an old tenant. Rekeying resets that to zero. It is the single most common job we do for new owners.
